As moms, we all instinctively rock our babies. We know that it soothes and calms them, and us as well. But did you also know that rocking has another benefit?
Rocking stimulates your baby's vestibular system. This is the system that is responsible for balance. You encourage the development of your baby's vestibular system when you rock her and when you carry her in different positions. You can rock in the traditional cradle position, or with baby facing forward or over your shoulder. And toddlers like rocking too. You might want to try some creative positions for them like having them leaning on your back with their arms around your neck. Giving little ones different perspectives by using different positions helps them develop this sense of balance as well.
So, rock away Mom!
